ALSEVERS: Blood containing alsevers solution is a 50% mix of whole blood and 50% alsevers solution.
Alsevers solution, which is made in our laboratory and tested for sterility, acts as an anticoagulant and preservative. It contains sodium citrate and glucose.
Blood for all products is drawn from healthy animals maintained on our premises under the direct supervision of our Staff Veterinarians and kept on antibiotic-free diets. When medications are rarely used (e.g. - dewormers or antibiotics), withdrawal times are complied with. Lab animals are sedated or anesthetized for blood collection. Calves are fasted for 12 hours before being used as donors. Animals are closely monitored so as not to over bleed them causing anemia. If for any reason an animal is unhealthy or has to be given antibiotics, it is removed from production until returned to health. Blood is drawn under aseptic conditions and then filled into sterile bottles in the aliquots requested by our customers.
All products are tested for sterility using HI, Thioglycollate, and Tryptic Soy. Because of the time necessary for complete testing, the product is shipped prior to final determination. If for any reason we deem the product to be unsatisfactory, the customer is immediately notified and the product replaced or credit issued.
